Effective January 1, 2019, with the new CPD requirement, a Professional Member with the CPHR designation is required to have sixty (60) hours of qualifying Continuing Professional Development in a rolling three (3) year calendar, with a minimum of ten (10) qualifying hours in a calendar year.
With these changes, CPHR Saskatchewan has updated how leaves of absence (LOAs) will be handled.
CPHR Saskatchewan will grant CPD Exemption Hours for those Professional Members taking an approved leave of absence (LOA) from their workplace. The leave of absence must be for a minimum of three (3) months.
The following leaves apply:
- Family leave including maternity, adoption, parental leave, or crime related child death or disappearance;
- Medical leave including illness or disability, organ donation, critically ill child care leave or compassionate care.
Written documentation is required from the Professional Member’s Employer outlining the approved leave and the duration within thirty (30) days of the commencement of the leave. In the case of self-employed members, documentation from a physician is required in lieu of employer documentation. Professional Members can send their requests for leave of absence to info@cphrsk.ca.
If further extension is needed, additional documentation will be required from the Professional Member’s Employer. Please contact the office at 306-242-2747 or info@cphrsk.ca to further discuss.
Professional Members are required to remain members in good standing in their provincial association at all times; this includes time away on a leave of absence. Please update contact information on the profile page of the CPHR Saskatchewan website with an email address that we can reach you at for all important membership information.
CPD Exemption Hours
CPHR Saskatchewan will give CPD Exemption Hours for approved LOAs as stated above. The CPD Exemption Hours will be applied as follows:
- Minimum 3 months – 5 CPD Exemption Hours
- 6 months – 10 CPD Exemption Hours
- 9 months – 15 CPD Exemption Hours
- 12 months - 20 CPD Exemption Hours
- 15 months - 25 CPD Exemption Hours
- 18 months – 30 CPD Exemption Hours
If the leave period falls over 2 calendar years, the Professional Member can request either the current or following year for the exemption hours to be applied. CPD Exemption Hours will not be split between calendar years. Please see examples further down.
The maximum number of CPD Exemption Hours that will be given in a 3 year rolling calendar is 30. This means the Professional Member still needs to obtain 30 CPD hours in the 3 year rolling period to meet the minimum of 60 hours.
